Who this policy covers
This policy covers Laura, the German-learning Android app (package com.laura.german), this website, and requests sent to our support address. Contact the Laura publisher about privacy at laura.muller.german@gmail.com.
Learning and conversations on your device
Laura stores learning progress, saved answers, preferences, reading positions, bookmarks and tutor conversations in app storage on your device. The downloaded tutor model generates replies on the device; the current app does not send your chat prompts or answers to a hosted AI service. Optional postcode or town selections in Useful tips are matched against bundled data and saved locally. The current app does not offer a Laura online account or record microphone audio.
Your operating system may back up and restore app data depending on your device and backup settings. Such backups are controlled by your device provider and your account settings, rather than a Laura account.
Lesson audio includes pre-recorded narration. If you use Android text-to-speech, the selected speech engine processes the requested text under its own settings and privacy practices; some engines or voices may use network services.
Internet access and downloads
Internet access is used to download tutor model files, free book previews, lesson media and purchased content. Model downloads use Hugging Face; free-preview downloads use the configured Laura preview service; Google Play handles supported purchases and Play-delivered content. These services receive ordinary connection information such as IP address, requested file, device/client information and request time. Their own privacy practices apply. Your chat messages and exercise answers are not included in these download requests.
Purchases
When book purchases are enabled, Google Play processes checkout and payment details. Laura uses product identifiers, purchase status and signed purchase receipts or tokens to verify access, restore purchases and download the relevant book. Laura does not receive your full payment-card details. Purchase records maintained by Google are separate from your local learning progress.
Website and external links
Cloudflare hosts this website and processes connection and security information needed to deliver and protect it, including IP addresses and request metadata. We do not add advertising trackers, analytics scripts or tracking cookies. Fonts and site artwork are served with the site. Cloudflare may apply its own necessary security measures. Optional external links, including official services linked from Useful tips, open third-party websites with their own policies.
Support messages
If you email us, your email address and whatever information or attachments you choose to send are processed to answer your request and resolve the issue. Email is handled through Gmail. Do not send passwords, full payment details or sensitive documents. Support correspondence may be retained while needed to handle the request, related follow-up or applicable legal obligations.
Use, sharing and security
Data is used to operate the requested learning features, deliver downloads, verify purchases, provide support and protect the website. We do not sell your learning history or use it for advertising. Connection, email and purchase information is handled by the service providers described above; information may also be disclosed where required by law. Depending on the provider, processing may occur outside your country. Downloads use HTTPS in release configurations; private app data is protected by Android app storage and your device security settings.
Retention and your choices
Local information stays until you reset the relevant feature, clear app storage or remove the app; device backups may retain copies. Deleting learning progress does not cancel or refund Google Play purchases. See data-deletion instructions for learning progress, chat, downloads and backups.
You can contact us to request access, correction or deletion of information you sent to support, or to raise a privacy concern. Where applicable law provides them, you may also exercise restriction, objection or portability rights and complain to your data-protection authority. We cannot remotely retrieve or erase local-only app data. Provider-managed purchase, hosting and backup records follow those providers' controls and applicable retention requirements.
Children and updates
Laura does not require a child to provide personal information to use its local learning features. A parent or guardian can contact us about information sent to support. This policy will be updated if the app's data handling changes; the effective date appears above. It does not replace any additional permission or consent required for a future feature.
